Had the pleasure of hosting students from Maret School as interns for their senior projects. Checkout their reactions from the experience:

Being able to shadow D'Angelo Kinard for two weeks was an opportunity I was very fortunate to have. Going into the intern, I was expecting to learn how to become a personal trainer. This was not the case. From D'Angelo, I've gained wonderful insight on marketing, business management, and becoming successful and reaching goals which I set for myself.

Building my own company under the supervision of D'Angelo I learned that social media in today's society is a very big marketing tool. From Facebook, to Instagram, to Twitter, they can all be used in a beneficial way to increase your fan base and clientele, and add credibility to your work. Using these tools constructively, you can inspire other individuals to take part in what you do.

From reading his book, I learned that life is about finding your place in the world, achieving what you want and reaching your goals. How to do that? It all starts with a goal, once you have a goal, you must come up with a plan that will allow you to reach this goal. And in order for your plan to be successful, you must identify and make sacrifices that will allow you to complete this plan. "Success is a choice". Says D'Angelo. If you want to be successful, you must be mentally willing and ready to take on the task.

The most important thing I've learned from D'Angelo is how to maintain the right mentality. Mentality must change from setting to setting in order to conform to the people and attitudes of each environment. Doing this makes you easy to relate to, whereas keeping the same mentality with all people may cause you to alienate some of them. With the right mentality, anything is possible. If you set your mind to your goal, and set your plan and sacrifices keeping a firm mental structure will allow you be successful. -Jalen Barnes

My time at Advanced Sports performance has been both challenging and rewarding. The most important lesson I learned is that no one likes to hear excuses and he certainly embodies that, and always tells us to “find a solution”. I’ve learned a lot besides just always trying to find my own solution to a problem. I’ve learned that in the personal training business it’s not all about just being big and working out the body. Coach D gives a lot of his clients a relationship they missed with any other trainer they’d had previously. Each relationship varies between his clientele, however, it’s quite clear that there’s a bond that’s been formed between them all. He gives those clients more than just physical fitness by building their confidence and improving upon their mentality. He’s truly more of a life coach, even to those who think they’re only going there to get in better shape. The lessons he imparts upon his clients truly follow the guidelines of his novel Life GPS: Goal, Plan, Sacrifice”. -Anthony Ware
